Europe supports Zürich’s emerging researchers
Ten researchers of ETH Zurich and University of
Zurich are being presented with grants from the European
Research Council (ERC). With this, they take home 15 million
Euro to Zürich.
During the next five years six researchers from ETH Zurich and
four from University of Zurich respectively are being awarded
1.5 million Euro each for their projects. Daniel Wyler,
pro-rector Medical and Natural Science of the University of
Zurich says: «We are proud of our young researchers who have
successfully applied for this important scientific reward. The
funding itself also is a great argument for the research
location Zürich.»
The ERC offers two types of grants: The Advanced Investigator
Grant is awarded to well-established researchers annually at the
end of the year. In order to provide funding to promising young
researchers, the ERC has established the Starting Independent
Researcher Grant, which is usually presented in August. While
applicants from every area of research are eligible for both
types of grants, interdisciplinary project proposals, the
exploration of novel scientific fields and the employment of
innovative procedures are being particularly encouraged.
