Switzerland Runner-up in top ten of 2010 Environmental Performance Index

When it comes to protecting the environment, Switzerland is among the leading nations in the world. In the 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), the country is ranked a close second behind Iceland.

Switzerland owes its great results to high scores in categories such as water quality, biodiversity and habitat, and air quality. Switzerland also receives excellent marks in climate protection. The top score reflects its long-term commitment to sustainability and maintaining a superior quality of life – which has become an important factor for companies scouting new markets and locations for expansion of their business.

The EPI is released every other year at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos (Switzerland). It ranks 163 countries on their performance across various criteria including environmental health, air quality, water resource management, biodiversity and habitat, forestry, agriculture and climate change. The EPI is produced by a team of environmental experts at Yale University and Columbia University.
